INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY STUDENTS UNDERGO INDUSTRIAL PRACTICE AT PT FREEPORT INDONESIA

Shella Pricillia Dimara, a 6th semester student of the Department of Electronics and Informatics Engineering Education from the Information Technology study program, is undergoing Industrial Practice at PT Freeport Indonesia, located in Papua. As part of FT UNY's efforts to prepare its students for the world of work, the Industrial Practice program is expected to provide opportunities for students to develop technical competencies through field experience, as well as understand aspects of entrepreneurship through the application of theory and direct practice in the industry. By collaborating with relevant industry partners, FT UNY is determined to ensure that the Industrial Practice program provides maximum benefits for its students.

Shella started her industrial practice on December 17, 2023 and will end on March 17, 2024, undergoing a 3-month practice period in the city of Tembagapura, Papua. Shella was placed in the Mine Underground division of the GBC (Grasberg Block Cave) Construction department as a web developer, serving in the GBC Construction underground mine office and in the Office Building 4 mile 72. Shella's task involves projects that are relevant to the problems in PT Freeport Indonesia's underground mines.

During her industrial practice at PT Freeport Indonesia, Shella was not only involved in her main project, but was also given the opportunity to understand the mining process at PT Freeport Indonesia by diving into the field firsthand for learning. Prior to the placement at the underground mine site, Shella also underwent various trainings such as General Safety Induction and Safety Underground Induction. The facilities provided to Shella during her industrial practice at PT Freeport Indonesia include free air tickets (round-trip), accommodation, and meals 3 times a day at the mess that has been provided. In addition, Shella is also provided with the necessary health facilities to support the smooth operation of industrial practices.
On this occasion, Shella hopes to gain valuable experience and knowledge in the mining industry, as well as be able to apply the knowledge and skills that have been learned on campus in the context of practice in the field. [IT Admin]
