National Seminar: "New Era Society 5.0, Are We Ready?"

Electronics and Informatics Student Association (HIMANIKA) FT UNY held a National Seminar with the theme "New Era Society 5.0, Are We Ready?" on Saturday, September, 26th 2020 online. The National Seminar is one of the programs of the Department of Development HIMANIKA FT UNY which aims to provide knowledge and insight in the field of electronics and informatics. Mr. Prof. Herman Dwi Surjono Ph.D. as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Yogyakarta State University gave a speech as well as officially opened the National Seminar which was attended by 350 participants through the ZOOM video-conferencing application. Also present, Mr. Handaru Jati, ST., M.M., M.T., Ph.D. as Head of the Department of Electronics and Informatics Engineering Education, lecturers, students in the Department of Electronics Engineering and Informatics, and also the general public.

This seminar is presented by the two speakers, Dr. Nina Kurnia Hikmawati, SE, MM. (Deputy Secretary-General 1 for External Affairs APTIKOM, Indonesian Computer University) and Prof. drh. Aris Junaidi, Ph.D. (Director of Learning and Student Affairs, Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture. Moderated by Bayu Septian, a 2017 Informatics Engineering student who is also the Chairperson of BEM KM UNY 2020.

In the first session, Dr. Nina Kurnia Hikmaati, SE, MM. explained that 8 important technologies have the greatest impact on business in the current era, namely:

  1. Artificial Intelligence
  2. Blockchain
  3. Internet of Things
  4. Drone
  5. 3D Printing
  6. Virtual Reality (VR)
  7. Robotics
  8. and Augmented Reality (AR)

She also added that in the New Era of Society 5.0, we need to understand where we are. With various kinds of innovations that we are familiar with, we must be able to utilize and optimize these innovations to be positive and useful for ourselves and the environment around us.

Meanwhile Prof. drh. Aris Junaidi, Ph.D. said that the challenges to be faced in the era of society 5.0 will be heavier, and the most important basic thing to prepare is to strengthen character. He also explained the various policies taken by the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs to prepare students for the era of society 5.0, including Merdeka Belajar Merdeka Campus and Indonesia Cyber ​​Education (ICE) as a platform for MOOC Indonesia.

 

The New Era of Society 5.0 is a must and has begun, coupled with the COVID-19 pandemic which accelerates us to the new era of society 5.0. Such rapid development will certainly result in disruptions in various fields, and many things need to be prepared to face this new era. Starting from science and technology research which must be optimized and its use must also be integrated. Until the alignment between the World of Education with the World of Work and the World of Industry (DUDI) which can be done by integrating KKNI, SKKNI, and occupancy maps into the curriculum.
